On May 9, the Regulatory Agency for Sanitation and São Paulo State Energy (ARSESP) published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo (DOE) Deliberation ARSESP 575, the Agency defined the tariff adjustment of the Gas Company São Paulo (Comgás).
This tariff revision was published in ordinary form as established in the concession agreement, to adjust the distribution margins (IGPM the last 12 months) and the weighted average cost of gas suffering direct impact of the exchange variation.
The results obtained with the completion of the Company’s tariff review are already being applied since May 31, 2015. The increases applied to the dealership’s tariffs for the industrial sector range from 7.79% to 9.66%. The change is valid for the entire concession area of Comgás, which includes the metropolitan area of São Paulo, Campinas Administrative Region, Vale do Paraíba and Baixada Santista. To reach the new values, Arsesp took into consideration the natural gas and transportation costs and the correction of the Company’s margins.
To ASPACER, this high comes at a time unstable for industries. Natural gas, which in the early 2000s made the sector one of the most competitive in the world today due to its price, is called “villain”. While the adjustments were heavy and continuous in Brazil, there were price declines in several other countries. In defense of the sector, the entity is acting on several fronts, for achieving more affordable and ways to increase the energy efficiency of its plants.
